Lance Kolbet


Lance Kolbet serves as principal of University Financial Group (UFG). Lance brings more than 25 years of full-time financial services experience to his clients and to leading the team at UFG. Lance is a current member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA), National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU), General Agents and Managers Association (GAMA), and is a Qualifying and Lifetime member of the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) with 6 Court of the Table qualifications.

He is active in the Pocatello Estate Planning Council with numerous industry awards. A founding member of the Advanced Association of Life Underwriters Political Action Committee (AALU PAC), and a significant contributor to the NAIFA Political Action Committee. He is a contributing author for several trade journals and magazines discussing various financial services topics.

He is passionate about his involvement in the MDRT Foundation. He serves as a Diamond Knight in the foundation and has also served on its grants committee and has received grants on behalf of his foundation for some local charities such as Family Services Alliance in Pocatello.

Lance has completed additional training from The American College as a Registered Health Underwriter (RHU), and the Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow (LUTCF) professional designations. He is a Lifetime Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Non-Commissioned Officers Association (NCOA), United States Submarine Veterans Association (USSVI), Naval Submarine League (NSL), Marine Corp League (MCL), American Legion, and the 40&8. He is a member of the Pocatello Elks Lodge and previous trustee. He is a graduate of Leadership Pocatello, member of the Pocatello Chiefs, and past board member of the Greater Pocatello Chubbuck Chamber of Commerce.

He currently serves as U.S. Senator Crapo’s treasurer for his leadership Political Action Committee, The Freedom Fund. He ran for the Idaho Senate in 2010 where he was narrowly defeated by 1% against incumbent Senator, Diane Bilyeu.

Mr. Kolbet is a certified scuba diver, and avid computer gamer. He can be found serving his clients and financial advisors from here in the Northwest to Santiago, Chile either as a speaker, mentor, practitioner, or philanthropist.

He graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1987 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving on two different submarines during the Desert Storm Campaign as a radioman. After his tour in the Navy he enrolled at Idaho State University where he obtained his insurance licenses in 1993 and founded University Financial Group. Later he obtained his FINRA series 6, 63, and 26 securities licenses and began serving clients throughout the Northwest.


John Young

Financial Services Registered Representative

At University Financial Group, John Young is dedicated to helping individuals and businesses achieve financial control and independence. Through careful understanding of critical details in his clients’ lives, he helps simplify the often daunting financial world, making it more accessible, understandable and manageable.

Prior to joining University Financial Group, John had a decade-long career as a news anchor for KPVI in Pocatello, Idaho. In 2001, he opened The John Young Group, a regionally-recognized and award-winning advertising agency. Recently with the the shift away from traditional to digital marketing in the advertising world, John has sought new opportunities in the financial services industry and was pleased to  join the team at University Financial Group.

A 1986 graduate of Yale University, John holds his FINRA Series 6 & 63 Registrations, along with his Life, Health, and Disability insurance licenses. Working alongside experienced agents Lance Kolbet and Scott Leavitt, John continues to apply his many years of experience in client consultation and service to the financial world.

He embraces the opportunity to help individuals and businesses identify and fulfill their goals, while furthering their financial education, personal analysis, and long-term planning needs. Above all, John values his relationships with clients and helping them safely reach their long term goals.

In addition to his work pursuits, John is actively involved in his community. While serving on the board of the Chubbuck Pocatello Hockey Association, he has helped realize the group’s mission of creating the first ever refrigerated ice skating rink in the Portneuf Valley. Outside of the office, John enjoys spending time with his lovely wife, Brandi (a CPA in Pocatello), and their two teenaged boys. From hiking to skiing, biking to golf, and playing his guitar in a local band, there is seldom a dull moment in John’s life. 


Shawna Loveland

Registered Representative

As a Registered Representative at University Financial Group, Shawna Loveland brings a wealth of business experience to the firm. Shawna helps clients strengthen their financial independence and build confidence in their future. She joined the financial services industry after the unexpected loss of two of her brothers, a tragedy that revealed the importance of disciplined planning. Ever since, Shawna has been dedicated to helping clients understand the value of life insurance, estate plans, retirement strategies, and more.

Prior to joining UFG, Shawna worked in the medical community at St. Alphonsus RMC in Boise, Idaho. She also served as the northwest account manager at Labcorp. Today, Shawna specializes in small-business planning and tax strategies, helping with buy-sell agreements, retirement plans (including 401(k)s and SEPs), split-executive bonus plans, salary continuation and more. In addition to her life, medical and disability licenses, Shawna holds her FINRA Series 6 & 63 Registrations.

An Idaho native, Shawna has three children, ages 16, 19 and 24. She is an active member of the Boise Chamber of Commerce and enjoys spending time in the great outdoors, whether she’s playing softball, wakeboarding, surfing, running or hiking.


Amanda Lynn Davison

Financial Services Representative

Through years of experience across multiple industries, Amanda Davidson has committed her career to empowering people and improving their financial wellbeing.

After attending Stevens-Henager College and graduating Cum Laude with a BA in Business, Finance and Management, Amanda entered the education field. Though she also worked in the weight loss sector, Amanda ultimately realized that the financial services industry presented the greatest opportunities to help others.

Since joining University Financial Group, Amanda has sincerely enjoyed working alongside her experienced team, while helping clients achieve their goals. She holds both her life and health insurance licenses.

Outside of the office, Amanda enjoys spending every moment possible with her children. Together, they enjoy camping, fishing and swimming.

Alan has a passion for helping people pursue their financial goals. This passion is what led him to become a Financial Advisor with Waddell & Reed in 2015. That passion also led him to move to University Financial Group giving him a better emphasis on the needs of his clients. Alan has the knowledge and resources to help you analyze your financial situation and develop a plan to help you reach your financial needs and goals.

Alan graduated from Idaho State University with a degree in Biology and a minor in Marketing. He also has his series 7 and 66 general securities licenses along with life, Health and Disability.

Alan enjoys spending his free time with his wife of 23 years. They enjoy outdoor activities together including riding personal watercrafts and camping watch their daughter play for Weber State Soccer and their son shoot competitive trap. Alan also enjoys personal time going running and walking with his chocolate Lab, weight lifting, cycling and traveling on his motorcycle.
